Junior Master Gardeners!
Our Junior Master Gardeners (JMG) is up and running with a FABULOUS start! We've hosted 2 meetings so far with amazing attendance and lots of fun. During the first meeting, students learned about what plants need and picked carrots that we planted last spring! Then during our 2nd meeting we learned about caterpillars & butterflies. We even released a monarch.
Thanks to Johnson County Master Gardeners for teaching the program, the PR PTA for monetary support, PR Parent Volunteers for helping facilitate, and to the our local Whole Foods in Olathe for donating healthy snacks!

Rachel's Challenge
Rachel’s Challenge Implementation in District Elementary Schools
Thanks to a grant from the Olathe Public Schools Foundation, the Rachel’s Challenge program has become a part of elementary schools in the Olathe Public Schools during this school year and last. Half of the district’s elementary schools implemented the program last school year and the remaining half will be implementing the program this fall. The remaining elementary schools will have a 45-minute assembly for students K-5 in the coming weeks. The Pleasant Ridge Assembly will be on Thursday, September 24th.
The purpose of the elementary programs is to encourage elementary school students to live a life of purpose, do simple acts of kindness and create a KC (Kindness and Compassion) Club to make their school a better place. While Rachel Scott was the first person killed in the tragedy at Columbine High school, this program will focus on Kindness and Compassion and will make no mention of the event.
Stories from Rachel’s life and adaptations of her writings exemplify her belief that small, deliberate acts of kindness could have an impact on the world and a profound effect on those around us. All topics are presented in age-appropriate positive language. Wall Bulletin Boards
We want to thank our PTA for funding these AMAZING bulletin boards in our hallways! We have finished off the 5th grade hall, kindergarten, and Grades 1 & 2.
These will be fabulous in displaying our student's hard work as they show off their skills. Not only will it make hanging the student work/projects much easier, the decorative design really "dresses" the hallways up!
As you can see, the teachers have quickly put them to use. :-)

A.L.I.C.E. Protocol
Starting Thursday, Sep. 3, Mrs. Crabtree (school guidance counselor) and I will be visiting with your child's classroom during their guidance class time about the A.L.I.C.E. protocol for a safe and secure school for all of our students/staff. Each grade level will meet with their student’s
teacher in their classroom during the following times:
5:30-6:30 EC & Kdg
6:00-7:00 Gr 1
6:30-7:30 Gr 2
7:00-8:00 Gr 3
7:30-8:30 Gr 4
8:00-9:00 Gr 5 (meeting
in the MPRoom)
During the first 30 minutes, the teachers will
present information regarding your student’s new classroom/grade level. During the 2nd 30 minutes, the
teachers will be available for questions/answers, signing up for Parent Teacher
Conferences, Room Parties, etc.
If you have multiple students and their times
overlap (ie Grade 1 & 2), you will be able to leave after the first 30
minute presentation in order to get to your next child’s classroom for that
teacher’s presentation.
PTA Hospitality Room set up in the LMC all
evening.
Refreshments available, along with the
opportunity to Join PTA, purchase Spirit Wear, pay classroom fees, & learn
more about how to get involved.
WatchDOGS Calendar (DOGS – Dads of Great Students) will also be
available in the LMC to sign up early for WatchDOG Dates!

Dear Parents,
We had an awesome start of the shool year this past week! Thank you for sharing your children with us each and everyday!
I wanted to send a few reminders/announcements regarding arrival time. Our regular school hours are 8:20am – 3:40pm. Students should not arrive before 8:10 am. Students arriving between 8:00 am and 8:10 am will wait outside on the school sidewalks for the first bell to ring (unless it is raining or the wind chill is below 19 degrees). We discourage students arriving before 8:10 am whenever possible. Our primary concern is student safety, and supervision is not guaranteed before 8:00am. Students arriving after 8:20am need to check in at the school office, as they are considered tardy if they are not in their classroom.
Students who arrive after instruction begins, create a learning distraction for the entire class. When this happens, all learning stops while the teacher accommodates the needs of the child. Tardiness can be detrimental to academic progress for an entire class, not just for the student who arrives late! The Zero Tardy Award at the end of the school year is a very important award that almost all of our students strive for, and want to encourage that to be EVERYONE's goal this year! Please make every effort to have your child at school and on time every day. :-)
