Construction Photo Update 2-25-14

We are really seeing the spaces coming together!  This week and next will be AMAZING!!!  The painters have been in and we have color.  Plumbing is being connected.  Ceiling grids are currently being installed today, with tiles later this week.  Electrical outlets being installed & connected now.  Flooring to be coming later this week.  Cabinetry at the end of the week.  Furniture next week.

They are working to enclose the vestibule closest to the inside of the building so we will have access from the inside hallways into the NEW office area.  March 7 is our anticipated date of receiving occupancy so we may begin moving into the Office Space over the weekend, and be ready for school on Monday, March 10.  At that time, Phase 2 will begin which will include the repurposing of the old administration suite into 2 new classrooms and finishing up the front entryway.  Anticipated completion will be mid-April.

Connection Between Witnessing Violence and Bullying

The Connection Between Witnessing Violence and Bullying

Research shows that kids watch an alarming amount of violence on a daily basis.  Since 2001, the American Academy of Pediatrics has recognized the exposure to violence in the media as a significant risk to the health of children and adolescents.  Adults must be or provide the role model for our children.  We have standards for educators regarding ethics and the professional code of conduct supporting the importance of exposing children to positive behaviors.
Although we may not be able to block all our kids’ exposure to violence, we can take an active role in monitoring the amount and intensity.  We certainly wouldn’t intentionally allow children exposure to drugs, alcohol, and pornography, so why would we not emphasize the exposure to other health risks?  Don’t be afraid to set limits and be selective regarding what your children view in the media.   Children need and crave parameters, and they look to the adults in their life for direction.
As a community, we must recognize the impact of violence on youth and its contribution to school climate, bullying, and risky behaviors.  We must establish a shared vision to identify initiatives that limit risk factors and commit to educating children in violence prevention and providing entertainment options that promote empathy and nonviolent expression.  We must build connections that help children and adolescents understand their role in creating a safe and positive community.

Welcome to the Pleasant Ridge Principal Blog

Welcome to Principal Actkinson's Blog for Pleasant Ridge Elementary!  I am continually looking for ways to make the sharing of information with our community timely, efficient, and easy to access.

When I send out a parent email with "information", I will plan to post the information here - again for easy access, and to simplify my emails.

Here are the recent Construction Photo Updates that have been sent in emails over the past month.
